Land & Resources Intern
JOB SUMMARY:
The Lands & Natural Resources Intern will compile geologic material (sand, gravel, rock) information from paper documents and assemble into a series of searchable database tables for use in the inventory and GIS applications. This position will last from July 1 through September 1, 2009. The skills intern will obtain are hands on building of a database for future inventory of Doyon material sales, and contracts of construction material sale agreements.

The Lands & Natural Resources Intern will compile geologic material (sand, gravel, rock) information from paper documents and assemble into a series of searchable database tables for use in the inventory and GIS applications. This position will last from July 1 through September 1, 2009. The skills intern will obtain are hands on building of a database for future inventory of Doyon material sales, and contracts of construction material sale agreements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Organize existing hardcopy for data entry and spreadsheet assembly.
• Recognize important characteristics of hardcopy documents and select those criteria applicable to engineering properties of materials
Requirements KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Ability to understand rock, soil and gravel characteristics as applied to construction projects.
• Must have skills to manipulate Excel and Access to create new tables for data entry.
• Must be very organized and have planning foresight.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be a sophomore-junior in an undergrad engineering program.
• Must have knowledge of soils, civil engineering, properties of materials, and computer applications.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The majority of the work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.
