Afognak Native Corp. Apprentice

Position Overview: Afognak is committed to providing professional development opportunities to its Shareholders and Descendants.
The goal of the Apprentice program is to provide intensive on-the-job training to two highly motivated Shareholders/Descendants that are interested in working in pre-mid level positions in one of the areas that Afognak/Alutiiq does business. It is anticipated that through concentrated training and mentoring, the Apprentices will be qualified to enter their chosen fields after one year of on-the-job training. Apprentices are expected to work full-time (40 hours a week). The length of employment will be determined on a case-by-case basis to accommodate the Apprentices training needs but will not exceed a one-year period.
Apprentices can work in one of the following departments: Accounting, Construction, Information Technology, Operations & Maintenance, Human Resources, Business Development, Lands, or Security. Work locations vary depending on available work and the successful applicants areas of interests. Applicants must submit an Apprentice application form, Afognak employment application, and resume.
Requirements:
- Voting Afognak Native Corporation Shareholders and their lineal descendants as defined by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971, including legally adopted children are eligible to apply to the Apprentice Program. (43 U.S.C.A. §1601).
- Must be a high school graduate or have a GED and be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a self-starter that is interested in learning the skills to succeed in a chosen field of work.
- Must work well in a team environment and have excellent communication skills.
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- For Construction jobs – a valid driver’s license.
